While I was campaigning, I heard from different parts of town about the noise that compression brakes (Jake Brakes) were making and disturbing the neighborhood. In order for a large truck not to use their compression brakes trucks have to slow down. Thus, a Jake Brake ordinance also acts as a traffic calming measure in addition to a noise ordinance. After being elected, I had planned on submitting a Jake Brake ordinance to restore some quiet to the neighborhoods and to slow traffic, but I needed some time before I did so. I also needed time to build credibility and a relationship with other commissioners before I introduced the ordinance. Hopefully I have done so for the Jake Brake ordinance to pass without issue (click here for ordinance). We will find out on Thursday at the work session when my Jake Brake ordinance will be introduced.
