The Planning and Zoning Commission will be holding a public hearing on the pending Dark Sky lighting ordinance tonight. )

A few months after I was sworn into office in 2022, I made a motion that the Town seek Dark Sky certification from the International Dark Sky organization. The motion failed on a 3-2 vote which I knew it would. But the motion started a dialog and became the catalyst to move towards starting the certification process and changes to our outdoor lightning ordinance which is what I hoped would happen when I made the motion. Tomorrow night (June 12, 2024) Alan Eastman, Governor Cox’s Chairman of Dark Sky Utah will be meeting with the Planning & Zoning Commission. In subsequent meetings, the Planning & Zoning Commission will be considering a new Outdoor Lightning Ordinance patterned after Springdale’s Outdoor Lighting Ordinance.
